Internal Medicine

As one of the essential medical department in a general hospital, Internal Medicine the largest department responsible for a wide range of medical care covering from mild cold to diagnosis and treatment of diseases and cancers of various organs, and characterization of abnormality in blood pressure, respiration, pulse and body temperature and maintenance thereof which are referred as life-sustaining vital signs.

Our hospital operates medical wards, outpatient care and emergency care and we are specialized in the medical treatment for gastrointestinal diseases such as functional gastrointestinal diseases, gastritis, peptic ulcer disease, gastric cancer and irritable colitis, hepatobiliary diseases such as hepatitis, liver cancer and cholelithiasis, respiratory diseases such as pneumonia, tuberculosis, asthma and chronic bronchitis, and kidney diseases such as chronic renal failure, hematuria, proteinuria and edema.
Surgery

Surgery is a department opposite to Internal Medicine. Typically surgery in Chinese contains the meaning of outside which makes it easily mistaken for a department responsible for external body surgery, but Surgery covers a wide range of areas including various surgeries on human body which is responsible for treating not only all the external injuries and inflammations or masses (lumps) in the skin and hypodermis, but also inflammations and masses in the head and neck, thorax and breast and diseases that occur in the abdomen (abdominal or all the intraperitoneal organs).

In Surgery department, laparoscopic or minimal invasive surgery, etc. is performed depending on the state of the disease or patient and especially minimal invasive surgery has advantages of fast recovery and low occurrence of side effects by making minimal incision. The main diseases covered by Surgery department are pancreatic and gastric cancers, colon cancer, breast cancer, appendicitis, thrombosis, liver cancer, liver failure, congenital diaphragmatic hernia, hemorrhoids, and diseases caused by external trauma.

In particular, this field is so wide as to require a lot of professional knowledge, for which quick action, determination and careful attention are needed because there are many severe patients needing emergency care
Obstetrics and gynecology

Obstetrics & Gynecology is divided into Obstetrics responsible for safe delivery for mother and healthy birth of the baby and Gynecology responsible for prevention and treatment of diseases only for women.

Obstetrics handles pregnancy-related care and in particular it is responsible for preventive prenatal care such as diagnosis of fetal malformations and diagnosis and treatment of high-risk pregnant women.

Gynecology handles diagnosis and treatment of gynecological cancers and is responsible for women’s health by treating various endocrine disorders and infertility and managing menopause. The most common gynecological diseases in Korea are uterine fibroids, cervical cancer, menopausal syndrome, menstrual abnormality, PMS and ovarian cancer.
Pediatrics

Pediatrics is a clinical area covering growth, development and diseases of children from conception through to adolescence, which aims to help children improve their physical, intellectual, emotional and social skills through all the developmental processes and to provide them a framework to become adults with a great future.

Growth, development and diseases are clearly different in each childhood stage. As it has been emphasized that “children are not just small adults”, stage-specific characteristics should be well understood in order to properly evaluate the children who are always growing and developing continuously and properly treat them accordingly.
Orthopedics

Orthopedics is a department which handles and treats external injuries and diseases in the limbs including bones, joints, muscles, skin and spine. Therefore, our orthopedics department is responsible for health of the bones supporting our body and joints connecting between them and provide accurate diagnosis and customized treatment according to individual diseases and conditions, which includes accurate diagnosis of hard-to-find lesions with naked eyes and fine damages with the state-of-the-art examination equipments such as X-ray, MRI and CT, suture of the damaged cartilage or simultaneous removal of cartilage and inflammation-causing pain, etc.

In particular for rapid recovery of patients, an organic system of collaborative care with specialists of Rehabilitation medicine has been established and we operate a specialized rehabilitation center composed of highly experienced subspecialty specialists in order to intensively improve the spine and joints areas. (Specialized rehabilitation center is expected to be open in 2015)
Neurosurgery

Neurosurgery is a department which is responsible for treatment and surgery of cerebrovascular disease (stroke), brain tumor, spinal cord tumor, head (brain) injury, spinal cord injury, spinal disc disease and degenerative spinal disease, peripheral neuropathy, pain therapy, stereotactic and functional neurosurgery, epilepsy and movement disorders.

We identify the diseases commonly causing headache, facial pain, limb numbness, neck and lower back pain, perform medicinal and surgical treatments and make specialized diagnosis and treatment for headaches and spinal pain caused by unexpected accidents. Our neurosurgery department makes every effort to treat our patients equipped with skilled medical staffs with a lot of clinical experiences and the latest medical equipment.
Otorhinolaryngology

Otorhinolaryngology department specifies literally all the diseases in the ear, nose, throat, head and neck and performs diagnosis and treatment. Nothing is more important than to hear, talk and smell during one’s life. This story emphasize the significance of the ear, nose and throat and Otorhinolaryngology department is responsible for treatment for various diseases caused by malfunctions of these three organs.

Ear is an organ responsible for hearing and sense of balancing of which typical diseases are mid-ear infections, hearing loss and tinnitus, nose is an organ involved in respiration, vocalization and olfactory sense of which typical diseases are sinus disease (sinusitis), rhinitis, snoring and smelling disorder, and throat is a body part connecting head and chest in a broad sense of which typical diseases are tonsillitis, tonsillar hypertrophy, acute pharyngitis (cold), laryngitis, voice problems and thyroid disorder.
Urology

Urology department handles diseases in the urinary track system (kidney, ureter, bladder and urethra), male reproductive organs (testes, epididymis, ejaculatory duct, scrotum and penis) and auxiliary gonads (prostate, seminal vesicles and glandulae bulboure-thrales) and adrenal glands.

Our hospital handles ureter and kidney stones, inflammations of the kidney and bladder and recently rapidly growing prostate cancer and bladder cancer emphasizing on the prostatic hyperplasia commonly occurring in the middle and older-aged men and on the urinary incontinence commonly occurring in the middle-aged women, and we are also conducting systematic, practical examinations for male sexual dysfunction. In addition, we diagnose and treat urinary track disorders more accurately through urinalysis, abdominal ultrasound, prostate ultrasound, CT, blood test and semen examination.
Mental Health

Mental Health treats diseases in the “emotions” and “nerves”. The mind and body are closely linked.

All parts that make up the human body don’t move independently, but send and receive signals to and from each other through the “nerves”. Human “brain” makes all these nerves function properly. But because of various reasons such as psychological, environmental and biological reasons, human brain and nerves malfunction at times. The Department of Mental Health treats those patients in these conditions.
Neurology

Neurology is a department which diagnoses diseases in the brain and complex brain-nervous system accurately and treats them accordingly depending on the characteristics and state of each patient. Nervous system of human body is made up of the central nervous system and peripheral nervous system, in which the central nervous system consists of the cerebrum, cerebellum, brain stem and spinal cord and the peripheral nervous system connects the spinal cord and muscles. Neurology is a specialized area to diagnose diseases in the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord), peripheral nervous system (nerves and spinal cord) and muscles and treat them through internal medical procedures.

If there are problems in the nervous system, symptoms of consciousness disorders such as faint and talking nonsense, of paralysis such as hemiplegia and paraplegia, of sensation disorders such as headache, nerve pain, cramps, tingling sensation in the limbs, feeling numb or rather becoming more sensitive, of movement disorders such as shaky hands and legs, involuntary twist or movement of the limbs, of optical disorders such as double vision and macular degeneration, of difficulty in swallowing or frequent choking, of pronunciation and language disorders, of mouth turned to one side, of dizziness or constant hearing a sound in the ears, of difficulties in climbing stairs or lifting hand, of gait abnormality such as staggering as if drunken while walking, dragging legs while walking or walking unnaturally, of becoming lethargic intermittently by complete energy drain from the whole body, of memory impairment, dementia, mental retardation, development and behavior disorders.

Dentistry

Teeth and oral tissues are part of the body which are closed related with health of the whole body, follow the same physiological and biochemical principles as other organs and oral tissues not only play a role as an indicator of health conditions of the whole body, but also greatly influence on maintaining health of the whole body. However, due to changes in eating habits, complex social life and increase in the number of accidents in recent years, lesions and damages in the teeth and oral tissues are on the rise day by day and a high demand for high-level dental treatment is on the increase day by day due to increases of elderly population and income level, which made many treatments, once impossible, possible by innovative changes in materials and treatment techniques.

Along with these changes, the field of dentistry is also following the trend of becoming segmentalized, specialized and specified like the social trend of becoming more segmentalized and specialized.

Current trend in each area of dentistry is to become more segmentalized, specialized and specified covering from traditional treatment for toothaches to treatment of maxillary fractures caused by external trauma, recovery of maxillofacial deformities and reconstruction of missing maxillary bone and management of life-threatening oral cancer, which is now being established as an area of systemic health in pursuit of a happy life. Anesthesiology

Anesthesiology is a medical field responsible for pre-operative anxiety relief for patients, anesthesia during surgery, post-operative pain treatment, chronic pain treatment including pain caused by cancer and intensive pain treatment. Currently anesthesiology can be divided into subspecialties of nerve anesthesia, cardiopulmonary vascular anesthesia, organ transplant anesthesia, intravenous anesthesia, pediatric anesthesia and obstetrics anesthesia. By relieving pains during surgery anesthesia contributed to breakthroughs in medicine, and now it is even able to control post-operative pains, which helps patients under surgery overcome the fear of pain.

In detail, anesthesiology department performs an anesthetic procedure optimized to the patient during surgery, manages overall conditions of the patient throughout before, during and after surgery, conducts post-operative pain management, attaches a respirator or executes an inhalation therapy to a patient with breathing difficulties and carries out emergency resuscitation. In addition, it also provides medical treatments for chronic pains such as headaches, herniated disc, neck disc, shoulder pain including age-related frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, knee arthritis, various tendonitis and post-herpetic pain.

For this reason, this area is considerably overlapped with Orthopedics, Neurosurgery and Rehabilitation departments and although injection therapy, physical therapy, medication therapy and personal diastatic therapy are performed after making diagnosis through consultations and examinations in the same way as other departments, advance in local anesthesia and regional anesthesia led to development of various knowledge and methods for pain treatment, which are applied to patients and contributes to improvement of the quality of life of patients.
Ophthalmology

There is a saying that “if body is worthy of one thousand silver coins, then eyes are worthy of nine hundred silver coins.”, which implies that eye is a very important organ in human life. Most information in human life is obtained through eyes, thus the most important matters for sharing information are those which are obtained through the vision.

Ophthalmology is literally the field of diagnosis and treatment of all diseases of the eye. Our ophthalmology department provides specialized treatments for cataract, correction of corneal and refractive error, strabismus, retinal disease and glaucoma and tries to practice the best medical service for our patients.
Laboratory Medicine

Laboratory Medicine is a department which is responsible for diagnosis of diseases using test samples collected from patients such as blood, urine, feces, body fluids and tissues, conducting tests related to observation of progress, treatment and prognosis judgment, and verification, interpretation and reading of the results. In addition, it is also responsible for a blood transfusion service through blood banking operations which is required for treatments of emergency bleeding and anemia.

Most tests are carried out with automated, state-of-the-art equipments and consignment of test and report of the result are being executed automatically by a prescription delivery system called OCS. Testing is the main task in Laboratory Medicine. Each field is diagnostic hematology, clinical chemistry, clinical microbiology, diagnostic immunology, blood bank and diagnostic molecular genetics.

Laboratory Medicine specialists are involved in laboratory operation, quality control in the laboratory, research, apply the latest examination techniques and are clinically responsible for selection of the test, verification, determination and interpretation of the result. Clinical pathologists are responsible for storageㆍmaintenanceㆍuse of machineㆍapparatusㆍreagents, etc. required for the examination procedures in each area of Laboratory Medicine, collectionㆍexamination of test samples, etc., preparation of reagents for the test, and examination of blood collectionㆍmanipulationㆍstorageㆍsupply, etc.
Radiology

In order to diagnosis diseases more accurately, a variety of medical tests are needed. When patients are admitted to the hospital, several imaging tests such as X-ray examination, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, computer tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and reading of these examinations are performed.

For examinations, it is important to take photographs more rapidly and accurately using the latest equipment, but it is more important to find the location of the problem and differences from the normal condition in comparison. Although not conducting consultations and operations of patients, Radiology department is responsible for accurate reading which enables doctors to treat the disease based on the data. Typical diseases confirmed by Radiology are neurological disorders such as cerebrovascular diseases, brain tumors and encephalitis, head and neck disorders such as thyroid cancer and lymphoma, chest troubles such as esophageal cancer, tuberculosis, pneumonia and bronchial stenosis, cardiovascular disorders such as coronary stenosis and deformities, heart deformities and inflammatory diseases invasive to the heart valves, and diseases in the liver or pancreas, abdominal lymph nodes, liver cancer and reproductive organs.
Emergency Medicine

Emergency Medicine is responsible for specialized emergency medical care for problems in the body due to acute illness or injury. For this reason, Out Emergency Medicine opens all year round established with an emergency-call system of staffs in charge in each department for emergency patients and severely ill patients, is ready for various emergency diseases such as seizures, fractures, cardiovascular disease and respiratory distress and is fully prepared to recover the patient’s condition back to normal or close to normal quickly in the shortest possible time.

Typical diseases for emergency room visit are abdominal pain, fever, vomit, enteritis, stroke and myocardial infarction, for which the medical staffs check the condition of the patient with ultrasound and various examinations, then diagnose and treat.
